The design of the mouse, though symmetrical in appearance can’t exactly be called ambidextrous as it features the side buttons on the left side of the mouse. It looks simple and is relatively low, designed for users with small to medium sized hands. The Logitech G102 Prodigy comes in two colours: black and white. Both come in a delicate matte finish, though it still feels very smooth while holding. The side buttons and the DPI shift button on the top have a glossy texture and feel much lighter. The bottom of the mouse also follows the same texture as the top, providing it a very uniform look and feel. In the middle is the optical sensor, surrounded by five anti-skid rubber pads.
The mouse comes with a 6000 DPI sensor, which is a huge improvement from the previous edition’s 2500 DPI. It can support up to 5 DPI settings, providing you a lot more options to suit your use and playing style. It is quite light, weighing just under 90g, making it a lot easier to control for people who do not prefer a heavier mouse. The left and right click buttons are quite tactile and feel comfortable to use. The side buttons are spaced adequately and are responsive as well. All the buttons a customizable and have the option for per-profile customization using which you can have a different profile for each game and map the buttons accordingly. The profile can then be activated automatically whenever you launch that particular game. Obviously, for this you need to download the Logitech Gaming Software.
The Logitech G102 Prodigy gaming mouse has an on-board sensor as well, which has a default set of DPI and RGB settings. Even if you don’t want to use Logitech’s software, you can still make good use of the mouse for both gaming and regular work.
A slim, classy LED strip follows the lower half of the top the mouse, which features 16.8 million colour customization using the Logitech Gaming Software. The Logitech logo on the top of the mouse also lights up, following the same RGB pattern as the LED strip, meaning you can’t have them light up separately (or individually, for that matter). However, the colour customizations are a bit limited as there are only three modes: Off, where the backlight turns off; Color cycling, in which the LED backlight cycles through the spectrum of 16.8 million colours; and Breathing Effect, using which you can set the backlight to a single colour. There are no other LED customizations, although you can fix the speed for the cycling and the breathing effect.
For a price point of INR 1500-2000, the Logitech G102 Prodigy Gaming Mouse makes a perfect device for gamers on a budget. Whether you’re a hardcore FPS or MOBA player or a casual gamer, the 6000 DPI sensor is enough to take care of all your needs with on-the-fly DPI switching. The keys are responsive and the mouse feels very comfortable to use, and the RGB backlighting make sure that even at a low price, the mouse offers an elegant look.
