WWE Raw preview (Mar. 16, 2020)
For the second straight show, public health measures designed to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus mean WWE is coming to us live from the Performance Center in Orlando. And without any fans in the building.
It’s hard to guess at what big story beats we might get tonight. Until the middle of last week, we expected the current programs to pay off on April 5. But with the very realistic possibility that WrestleMania 36 won’t take place that day at all, we could see some angles speed up and lead to TV matches, while others slow down to wait for a rescheduled ‘Mania.
We got a sample of this last Friday, when SmackDown delivered the first empty PC show of the pandemic era. No one blamed WWE for trying, but it was hard to describe it as anything but a weird show. We got a mix of talking segments & matches, a long replay, and lots of Triple H yukking it up with Michael Cole.
It’s tempting to throw our hands in the air and say “if two hours was awkward, imagine how weird three’s gonna be!” But now that WWE’s had a few more days to adjust to our current shared reality, and with the experience of putting together Friday’s show under their belts, it seems reasonable to expect something different tonight.
